Crystal Palace's fast start to the second-half secured a valuable point on matchday three of the UEFA Europa League, amidst a febrile atmosphere at Beşiktaş Park – and you selected Jean-Philippe Mateta as your Player of the Match!
The striker, making his first start since the opening day of the season, netted his first goal since the UEFA Conference League Final with an emphatic finish to complete Palace's quickfire turnaround.
The France international had already put the ball in the back of the net once in Istanbul – ruled out by VAR in the early seconds.
But Mateta persisted and, in a typically tireless performance up front, hassled and harried the home defenders, using his physicality to full effect.
And shortly after Yéremy Pino had drawn Palace level from close range, the No. 14 pounced on a loose backpass and rifled in Palace’s second on the night – which looked set to see them record an impressive win in Turkey, only to concede a later equaliser.
Mateta would go close on several other occasions throughout the 90 minutes – but it was his tenacity which won him some 52.4% of your votes.
Runner-up on the night was fellow scorer Pino, who made it three goals in three European games this season with his finish, and who won 33.0%.
